Blueberry scrimshaw. Nantucket baskets are traditionally adorned with decorative knobs and domes on the outside of the handle. The knobs are 3D designs unique to Nantucket. Scrimshaw is a traditional art that originated on whaling ships. Patterns were carved into the teeth of whales using sea knives and ash from boiling down whale blubber was used as ink. Blueberries are often picked locally in Nantucket and here feature as beautiful scrimshaw domes. Sold as a pair
